Open end blind rivets are tubular rivets with a mandrel through the center. The entire rivet assembly is inserted into a hole drilled through the parts to be joined, and a specially designed tool is used to draw the mandrel into the rivet. This expands the blind end of the rivet and snaps off the mandrel. Large Flange rivets offer a wider bearing surface and are preferred where brittle or soft materials are being assembled to rigid surfaces. Made of low carbon steel and should be used when fastening materials of similar mechanical and physical properties.
